Biography
Prof. Dr. Lee Ping-Chin obtained her PhD in Biotechnology from The University of Tokyo, Japan. She is currently the Director of Biotechnology Research Institute, Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Her research areas include molecular microbiology and infectious diseases (eg. malaria and COVID-19). She has attained outstanding achievements in terms of publications and innovations. Her contributions in science and technology are not only limited to novel scientific innovations but also allow further understanding between human diseases and their association with various genetic factors and microorganisms. Her research has also produced a diagnostic kit for malaria and commercialized in 2011. The kit is the world’s first PCR-based malaria detection system which is able to detect all 5 different species of human malaria parasites in a single multiplex PCR reaction with an internal control. Prof. Lee has delivered many presentations in various seminars, expositions and conferences. At an international level, she has been a journal reviewer for many WOS and SCOPUS publications. She has been awarded with more than 20 prestigious scientific recognition for her perseverance in research and for her excellent research innovations.
